Driven by curiosity and built on Built to Fit the Architecture
This solid alder door was custom-built for a contractor working on a residential remodel. The space beneath the staircase required a door with a nonstandard height, making an off-the-shelf solution impractical.
We fabricated the door specifically for the opening and supplied it unfinished, allowing the contractor to apply the final finish on site to coordinate perfectly with the surrounding millwork.
It’s a good example of what custom door work makes possible: the dimensions, material, construction, and finish strategy can all be tailored to the needs of the project rather than forcing the project to accommodate a standard door.
Ventilation Without Sacrificing the Design
This solid alder utility-room door needed to provide substantial airflow while still looking like a finished architectural feature of the home.
A steel mesh ventilation panel provides the necessary airflow, while a custom CNC-carved tree overlay transforms the functional opening into a decorative focal point. A second coordinated vented panel completes the design at the bottom of the door.
The combination of traditional woodworking, CNC fabrication, and metal screening allowed the practical requirement for ventilation to become part of the design rather than something that had to be hidden.
A Door That Doubles as Furniture
Built from solid alder, this custom interior door replaces traditional raised or flat panels with integrated shelving. The shelves become part of the door's construction and visual design, providing useful storage while maintaining the appearance of a substantial, handcrafted architectural element.
Because the door was designed and built specifically for the opening, the proportions, shelf locations, wood selection, and finish could all be coordinated with the surrounding interior.
